The Skaligerburg was once built to protect the port. The Italian king Berengar I had a castle and a city wall built in the 10th century. The Skaligerburg was built on these walls in 1383. Nowadays the castle is home to a museum about fishing and olive growing. The towers guarantee a wonderful view over the lake. Visitors can also visit one of the last lemon greenhouses in the museum, where lemons still thrive today. The castle and the museum can be visited daily between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Different opening times are possible in the winter months.
