Forte dei Marmi

Forte dei Marmi is a fashionable Italian seaside resort on the Ligurian Sea. Situated on the north-western coast of Tuscany in the province of Lucca, the town attracts countless tourists every year. If you are planning a stay in this charming little town, you should try to find accommodation as early as possible, because the popular location means that accommodation is often booked up quickly. The coastal landscape known as Versilia has been home to a number of seaside resorts since the 19th century. After Viareggio, Forte di Marmi is the oldest seaside resort on the coast. The town owes its name to an 18th-century fort, which has been the town's namesake since 1799. Today, the former defensive fortress is home to an extraordinary caricature museum, which is one of the most visited sights in the town. In the past, famous writers such as Thomas Mann and Aldous Huxley appreciated the unique atmosphere of the place. Among other things, Thomas Mann wrote his novella "Mario and the Magician" in Forte dei Marmi. And even today, celebrities meet in Forte dei Marmi. Many luxury villas lie hidden in the magnificent Tuscan landscape. Among others, the tenor Andrea Bocelli has his residence here.
